Patrol Marksman

$650.00

Class Description

The Cornerstone Performance Patrol Marksman course is designed to help officers fill the capability gap that exists between a patrol officer and a SWAT sniper.  We’ll learn to exploit the capability of a patrol rifle equipped with an LPVO (or other magnified optic) using real world barricade support positions on full and partial targets from 75-300 yards.

Each drill in this course is built around the proper use of magnification in an offensive / defensive shooting.  While designed for law enforcement officers to enhance their ability to make high risk shots at small targets, it is also suitable for the responsible civilian who wants  to better protect themselves in situations where magnification and target identification are necessary.

What this class is NOT:
This class is not a “how to hit steel a long way off with an LPVO” class.  We will focus entirely on shooting very aggressively at realistic sized (small) targets between 35-275ish yards.  This is NOT an AR15 handler’s course.  Shooters should arrive with a thorough understanding of how to safely operate their rifle.

We’ll cover:

  • Rifle Setup & Optic Mounting – We’ll discuss best practices for mounting your optic and then make sure they’re set up correctly before we start.
  • Zeroing – Best practices for getting a proper zero and a discussion on the pros and cons of zeroing at different distances.  You will leave knowing EXACTLY where your rounds will impact at varying distances.
  • Overall potential cone of fire.  What it is and why it matters.
  • Mitigating weaknesses – How much magnification is right?  We will work on finding the right magnification for varying target difficulty (More is not always better).
  • Exploiting strengths – Since we can see better with an LPVO we can probably make better hits, but only if we can build a proper shooting position.  We’ll spend a lot of time quickly building stable and durable barricade support positions.
  • Target discrimination – We may be able to hit things at greater distances, but we need to be able to hit the RIGHT thing.  We’ll utilize live actors in dry scenarios and photo realistic targets to 300 yards in live fire.
  • Range estimation and wind calling – When it matters and rules to live by.

Student Requirements:

  • AR15 with a magnified optic (LPVO, ACOG style optic, or RDS and
    magnifier are all acceptable)
  • 500 rounds of reliable ammunition.  Bring duty rounds or practice ammo
that is substantially similar to your duty round (example–they’re both
    75grain rounds with similar velocity).
  • 3 magazines and a sling
  • Eye and hearing protection
  • Clothing and water / snacks suitable for a day on the range
  • Strongly suggested for zeroing but not required–Shooting mat, bipod, rear bag.  At a minimum bring a backpack you can use as a rest.
  • Kneepads are strongly recommended

Cost: $650
